Intro To Cold War
Towards the end of WWII the world had seen what the atomic bomb could do and how powerful it was. The atomic bomb had caught the attention of the Soviet Union which caused them to want a bomb just like the atomic bomb so they could keep up with the U.S. . The U.S. never really like communism since the U.S. is a capitalism country so they went after the Soviet Union. Which then caused the greatest rivalry in the world The Cold War. Each country, the Soviets and U.S., wouldn't fight directly at each other they'd fight indirectly through other smaller countries. Both countries would be in a constant rival on who can make their country better than the other or who could have the better achievements first. |
Revolutions
A successful revolution was in Czechoslovakia it was called the Velvet Revolution. The velvet revolution wasn't really a dramatic dangerous revolution but a pretty peaceful revolution. The revolution brought an end to communism within Czechoslovakia. |
Cold War Ended
Ronald Reagan realized that their economy was in truly bad shape after trying to keep up with the 27% increase in the US. After a couple of months the Soviet Union's economy was barely standing and forced them to collapse. The leader Mikhail Gorbachev was force to stop communism and resign as leader. The Soviet Union just could not keep up with the United States economically. |
Hot Spots
One of the major wars that the United States was involved in was the Vietnam war. The United States got involved with Vietnam because their leader Ho Chi Minh supported the idea of Communism. According to the Truman Doctrine wherever communism goes the U.S. has to go and fight it. The war was a log war because the vietnamese were basically fighting for themselves. They were fighting for their own independence from other bigger stronger countries. Another conflict that occurred during the cold war was the soviet union placing nuclear missiles within Cuba. The reason why this was a conflict is because Cuba is the closest island to the United States. The missiles that were placed within Cuba could've possibly destroyed half of america if they were launched. |
